38 Underrepresented World Wide Talents That You Need to Know!

In a world where so many great entrepreneurs and artists can become famous at the act of one viral video online, it's easy to get lost in the misconception that with social media's "power," anybody who is talented is already known. After all, it isn't as difficult to gain exposure and "get big" as it was 20 years ago before the Internet's Massive Media takeover, right? Partially yes, however, social media also makes the market 10x as saturated as it was 20 years ago. Thus, are you really that much further ahead if all of your competition has the means to one-up you, free of cost and inconvenience, just by posting to their online accounts? It's a lot to think about. That is why we here at The Fresh Faces Project work hard to make sure that the artists and entrepreneurs and do-gooders who are underrepresented and don't get the fame and acknowledgment that their talents merit are given a platform. That platform is us.

When creating this article, people in various backgrounds, aesthetics, and industries (from fashion to art to music to film to literature and beyond) were scouted from all over the world. We narrowed them down to 38. These are their stories.

Miah Green is a 12-year-old non-profit founder, Caring Crowns 4 A Cause, where I focus on to encourage, empower and coordinate youth volunteerism. She has performed in cirque acts all over the U.S. solo and with Le PeTiT CiRqUe(R).  The highest honor to date was performing in Oslo, Norway at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert with Le PeTiT CiRqUe(R).  As a model, she has enjoyed modeling for various clothing brands and walked in NYFW, LAFW, and other runway shows.  Her recent film, Counting Stars, won the Best Short Film under 5K at the 2018 Utah Film Awards and just completed a project for DreamWorksTV.

What do you do and why do you do it?
I am a cirque performer, model, actress and humanitarian.  In all of them, I feel free and they give me a chance to express myself in different ways.  I not only want to be my best self, but help make my community and make a difference in the world.

What inspires you or motivates you?
People inspire me, I get to work and train with the most amazing people which motivate me to be the best in whatever I am doing.  Success and failure both motivate me.  When I fail at something I won't stop until I feel I am at 150% and once you have a success you want to be in that moment every minute of every day.

What are your goals in 5 years?
I have lofty goals.  I would like to have signed a Cirque du Soleil contract, have a speaking role in a movie with Melissa McCarthy, sign a modeling contract with a high-end fashion designer and I would like to have received my 10th Presidential Volunteer Service Award.

What are some struggles you have faced?
Being bullied in school has been my biggest struggle.  I surround myself with people that want to be successful and lift others up.  I started homeschooling and now I am an advocate for FREE2LUV an anti-bullying nonprofit organization.  I also promote kindness wherever I go!

How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project?
Fresh Faces gives people the opportunity to show the world who, what and why they are artists.  It helps people to see and be seen for what makes them unique.

A2: Myself, future generations to come and making the world a much better place motivates me daily to continue pushing to make a positive difference.
What are your goals in the next 5 years?

My goals in the next 5 years are to be working full-time as an entrepreneur, no longer working in the corporate world, have grown my Vegan | Vegetarian Tasting Competition to 1,000+ attendees, to be driving and to be paid for all that I do; living off multiple streams of income.

What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome them?

I've struggled with lack of transportation, lack of funds, caring for my sick mom, dealing with the loss of my mom in December 2018 and pushing through not having family support most days.
I significantly overcame my transportation issues by planning days ahead and utilizing public means of transportation: walking, bus, catching a ride from others and faithfully using Uber & Lyft to maneuver through the city. I've overcome my lack of funds by simply swallowing my pride and asking for help as well as charging for my skills. I stepped up to the plate to take care of my mom by doing what I had to do (walk, borrow money, spend all my money, work long hours or multiple gigs, etc.) to make sure she was taken care of despite being stressed and overwhelmed. To help me throughout my grieving process, I've increased my self-care, surround myself around people daily and work on my creative projects to keep me sane and to keep me going. Being independent and building my own network of support in the city of Detroit helps me overcome the lack of family support.

How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project?
The Fresh Faces Project is simply amazing!
I applaud Calynn for her hard work and support of entrepreneurs alike. It's difficult enough trying to be independent on top of gaining exposure and this project helps us get one step closer to achieving our goals, expanding our network and gaining that exposure we so deserve. Many thanks to Calynn & The Fresh Faces Project for all they do for the creative community!

J.M.Wong is born and raised in Hong Kong. She has never ever lived in an English speaking country for more than half a year but insisted on writing her books in English in hopes of sharing her stories with people all over the world.  At the age of 24, she published her first novel-Under Her Cursed Scythe, a work which she has been working on for six years. She is currently working on the rest of her novel series-the Blessed or Cursed Series, putting out short works like Mercy Reaper on Web novel and writing blog posts for a jointed blog called Creative Hopeless Collective. She is also the creator of the Youtube Channel-JollyMollyWongTV where she shares her life and works with the world and a full-time English teacher in a high school in Hong Kong.

What do you do and why do you do it?
I have published an urban fantasy novel called Under Her Cursed Scythe. I did it because I want to prove to others that I can still share my stories with the world even if my first language is not English and I want people to experience that joy I had when I was "traveling" to my imaginary world.

Tell us what inspires you or motivates you to succeed?
First, it was J.K.Rowling who motivates me to share stories with others instead of keeping them to myself. Then, it's Ellen Degeneres who inspired me to spread joy and love to the world. After that, it's Emma Watson who taught me to become a confident woman.

What are your goals in the next 5 years?
I will continue to work on my novel series- the Blessed or Cursed Series and my goal is to publish at least three more books within the next 5 years.

What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome them?
Being looked down upon and telling me it's hard for me to get my stories out there simply because I am born and raised in Hong Kong and English is not my first language. I will write no matter what they say and will read so much more to push my English to a point that no one can be distracted by the fact that the author is not a native speaker.

How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project?
I am glad that they are willing to give a chance for talented, amazing artists and people that are unrepresented by mainstream media a chance to get their voice out to the world.

Sarah Judy is the creator, designer and producer of Sugarcoma Clothing. Apparel production is her creative outlet and she has been producing audacious clothing since 2012 with the intention of making a bold statement. When she graduated from Columbia College in 2009 she began a career in the retail industry. She intended on continuing down the path of merchandise management for a corporate enterprise until she realized what she had to offer in terms of a creative, all-inclusive, female-driven brand. Soon her mission became to empower females of every size by providing them with a powerful means of self-expression through creative fashion. She feels strongly about bridging the gap between standard and plus size scales, therefore Sugarcoma is available to everyone of every size imaginable. All styles in the shop are handmade to order and all materials are sourced in the USA. She loves the idea of being able to focus solely on her mission and helping others gain confidence through their personal style.

What do you do and why do you do it?
My name is Sarah Judy and I make evocative, casual fashion for all feminine beings.  I design, construct, print and produce every single item myself, by hand, in my home studio, as it's ordered. My goal is to empower women by providing them with a means of self-expression via fashion. I would love nothing more than to positively impact the retail industry by offering my line in ALL sizes (XS-6X) with custom sizing available because I strongly believe in the power of individualism and promoting self-acceptance.

Tell us what inspires you or motivates you to succeed?
What inspires me is the beauty I see in every woman. I believe we should embrace our distinctive qualities and glorify them. I do not mass produce my apparel because I want my clothing to be as unique and special as my customers are. What motivates me is the obligation I feel to share my vision with others. There is no better feeling than seeing my creations exert confidence in my customers and how happy it makes people to have something exclusively made for them.

What are your goals in the next 5 years?
In the next 5 years, I plan to grow my business through influential marketing and strategic publicity so that I can expand my market and eventually hire a team of women to help me produce everything in-house. My company will always be made for females by females. I would also love the opportunity to employ women in need of job training and new skill sets. One idea I have is to partner with a local women's shelter and teach their clients abilities that will help them with employment opportunities or entrepreneurial potential.

What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome them?
My biggest struggle as a small business owner is balancing the cost of growing a new business with working to 'pay the bills'. With zero capital investment, I am using personal funds which can be quite limiting. I have not taken any loans out and Sugarcoma is registered as a sole proprietorship. I make every item as it's ordered so that I am not holding inventory and have a much lower overhead; however, there are many other facets of the business that require funding in order to expand my market and create exposure for my brand. I am still working to find a balance here through commissioned custom projects and producing apparel for other clothing lines.

How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project?
I think the Fresh Faces Project is a fantastic way for independent artists to gain positive exposure for their craft. I love the fact that accomplished entrepreneurs feel moved to help others gain success, as they have. Generation X has the largest percentage of self-starters to date and I think that networking, promoting each other's work and being resourceful is how we elevate ourselves and our peers.

Leslie Garnett is a professional fashion model, wife, mother of 2 and grandmother to the most beautiful 4-year-old little girl. "Professional, passionate, encouraging and patient" are perfect adjectives for her personality. You can say she was discovered walking to work downtown. She has worked with numerous Chicagoland designers and was offered the opportunity to go to Paris. Everyone thought she was crazy but she turned it down. Having strong family values, she chose to stay and be a good wife and mother. After raising her children, she was asked by a friend to model her new clothing line for a shoot. That was 6 years ago and she's been at it ever since. She has participated in Black Fashion Weeks in Chicago, Houston, and Indianapolis, Dare to be Different Annual Presentation 2015- 2017, and in 2017 was chosen to be the face of their marketing campaign. She strongly believes in supporting others in their endeavors. That is why her partner and I started a project called S.L.A.E. (Self Love and Empowerment) which provides support as well as affordable industry tools.
What do you do and why?
I have been modeling professionally for years and it has been a passion of mine. I LOVE fashion and how its interpreted by different designers and being able to bring their visions to life on the runway. Recently I have added model coaching to my arsenal and I really love being able to help other models with their craft and uplift their confidence. In doing this, I noticed that a lot of models did not have the proper industry tools so S.L.A.E.(Self Love and Empowerment) was born. We provide industry tools such as composite cards, resumes, profiles and business cards. S.L.A.E is in its’ infancy stage but making an impact already.

What inspires and motivates you to succeed?
The biggest thing that motivates me is when I am coaching someone and I see that lightbulb that shows on their face when the mastered what we are working on. To see the confidence level grow right before my eyes.

What are your goals in the next 5 years?
Growing in my career and helping others to do so as well.

What struggles have you encountered?
I wouldn’t necessarily call it a struggle but the challenge that I encounter the most in this industry is negativity from the models. This is a competitive field but I feel we should support and uplift one another. If it is meant for you then no one can change that. Share correct information and help each other reach that next level.

How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project
I believe that the Fresh Faces Project is a fantastic vehicle that entrepreneurs of all types can receive wonderful exposure as well as important information. It is also a tool for networking and bringing like-minded people together. Everything that I have read has been positive, uplifting, informative and needed.  Thank you again for this opportunity

Ignescent combines their musical backgrounds to form a harmony that is both addictively musical and inspiring. With a series of accomplishment from working with Grammy-winning musicians, having multiple songs hit the charts and selling lots of albums, Ignescent is more than just a rock band. They are real people with a combination of great stories! These stories, combined with moving guitars riffs and a driving beat create a sound people enjoy and relate to.  Their influences include Flyleaf, Evanescence, and Paramore with their music being a great mixture of rock and pop with a great message.

What do you do and why do you do it?
I am the lead singer for Ignescent, a solo artist, and actress. I do this to encourage others through music that there is hope and a purpose for their lives.

What inspires you?
God is the one who inspires me to sing and write music. Even if one person can be encouraged by my music then it is worth it.

What are your goals in the next 5 years?
My goals are to be with a major label within the next 5 years and to travel more.

What are some struggles you have encountered?
Some struggles, in the beginning, were just not knowing exactly what to do and how to book shows but over time I have learned a lot and grown.

How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project?
I am very encouraged by The Fresh Faces Project and by Calynn Lawrence. It's refreshing to see someone so passionate about what they do and about helping others get exposure and their name out there. As far as Chicago Talent, it's nice to be able to see so many talented people in the Chicago area and learn about what they are doing.

In 1980, Kenty was born in The Dominican Republic, raised in St.Maarten. She went to The Milton Peters College where she did MAVO / HAVO. In 2001, she traveled to The Netherlands to complete her tertiary education. Initially, she wanted to study Government Management, however, she discovered that her passion was the tourism industry, specifically in Event Planning! Some of her greatest accomplishments are being the youngest Country Manager within the Caribbean Multinational Of Manrique Capriles, Plus Size Recognized & Awarded Blogger
and Coordinator of the first Neutrogena Beauty Expo for St.Maarten!

What do you do and why do you do it?

This is one of the toughest questions, that people ask me all the time and I have trouble formulating it as I do many things, but I will try: I am a Marketer by profession, with over 10 years of experience in the industry. My passion for it was discovered when I realized that I have a special eye for detail and that I always strive to produce quality above quantity. Besides marketing, I am also a brand analyst and an advocate for women entrepreneurs. Anything that involves growth and evolution is where I want to be or be part of. In 2016 I embarked the journey of becoming St. Maarten’s first plus-size Blogger. This has expanded my network beyond my expectations. I am proud to have great role models in my life that were able to help me define from a young age that your passion lies on the things that you do effortlessly….

Tell us what inspires you or motivates you to succeed?
I am a proud mom of two boys and they are my greatest inspiration and motivation to become a better version of me on a daily basis. I am pretty demanding of myself, because I like to live by the golden rule, of treat others how you want to be treated and that seems to have been working just fine. My success is to know that I have obtained recognition without having to ask for it. That your merits and actions are measured by the ability to influence your environment and others into always being and doing better. I think in life that is the greatest success.

What are your goals in the next 5 years?
My evolution, passion and understanding of what it is to BE YOUR OWN BRAND, has given me the hunger for total corporate independence. Although entrepreneurship is not for everyone, I am pretty sure it crosses every human mind on a regular basis. The "what ifs, why can I, I dream of" are prime examples that in most cases self-doubt is what stands between you and running a successful business. In 2017 after the devastation of Hurricane Irma to my island, although scared I grab the opportunity of corporate freedom, and although short lived...I loved every single minute of it and I gave my clients 200% of my capabilities. Having said that in 5 years I hope to have "Be Your Own Brand" as an established business. Geared towards clients that understand the importance of branding and that the key element to maintaining a strong brand will always be quality and consistency.

What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome them?

I think realizing that my actual calling was not what I majored in was a wake-up call. It took analyzing my skills to understand where my strength was. Up until this day, I am a firm believer of evaluating yourself, same as you would do for any SWOT analysis. In addition to this, placing a value on my work and worth and teaching people to respect it was also one of the struggles that I think is very common: "the undervaluing yourself syndrome". Once you can comprehend that the competition will always exist, but that clients look for you because you do it differently and unique, you will learn to appreciate and at the same time be demanding of your worth.

How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project?

I love this initiative that focuses on discovering new talents. There are so many talented people in the world that often times die without ever being recognized. The founder has taken PR by the storm and partnering with small enterprises that highlight different levels of leadership and collaborations!

WHAT INSPIRES YOU OR MOTIVATES YOU TO SUCCEED?
I am inspired by making a difference in people's lives.  Over the years I have employed well over 150 of the local youth.  Watching them learn and grow and become great citizens themselves is inspiring.  Having past employees come back and say to me "I learned a lot from you!" is one heck of a measure of success!

WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS?
My business goals are simple:  Increase sales and continue to make a difference.  My personal goals are to watch my two children succeed in life and enter the college that gives them their best opportunity in life.

WHAT ARE SOME STRUGGLES YOU HAVE ENCOUNTERED IN THE PROCESS AND HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
The biggest struggle that I have encountered in business was when the housing market crashed in about 2008.  It was devastating to our local economy.  There were so many people losing their houses.  Obviously, I had to adjust how I conducted business in lean times.  My approach was to be bold and not bury my head in the sand!

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE FRESH FACES PROJECT?

What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome them?
Being a woman of color, I am constantly doubted. I am constantly labeled and not given the same opportunities as others. I overcome these challenges by staying in prayer and operating in faith. I realize as a black woman I have to be extraordinary in everything I do, I don’t have the option of being mediocre like others and still receive a promotion. I have to continue to challenge myself and set goals higher and higher.

Society! Individuals who grow up in the “hood” are stereotyped. We are considered “losers” & “low lives”. If I can break through some of those stigmas and help my people do the same, then we as a society can become culturally competent. My goal is to help my people overcome those same struggles that we have experienced.
What are your goals in the next five years?
I envision myself doing a plethora of things in the next five years. I have recently applied to Dominican University for their Social Work program, Chicago School of Psychology for their Counseling Program, and to John Marshall for their JD program. My goal is to have graduated from one of these prestigious institutions. The most important goal for 2020 is to be there with my son, Julian as he rings that bell and beats cancer!
What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome them?
I was raised by a single mother who sacrificed it all so that my sisters and I can have basic necessities. I have been shot on multiple occasions, have acquired felonies in the process, and have lost about 30 friends in the process. I can go on and on about my struggles but Julian Jayden Chavez & Leilani Deyanise Chavez are the reasons why I have overcome hardship!
How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project?
Calynn and I met at Richard J. Daley. I thought this would be a great opportunity to network with like-minded individuals. My goal is to utilize this platform so that I can reach the masses and let them know that “Si Se Puede!”
Kelly Nash is the founder and owner of Lipstick & Ink, a Chicago-based career and lifestyle blog, as well as events business, that launched in February 2018. Lipstick & Ink aims to motivate the female professional in all aspects of her life and encourages her to recognize her potential, make a plan to pursue her goals, and make her mark. Lipstick & Ink hosted events bring women together for panel discussions and meetups to network and contribute to real and inspiring conversations.
What do you do and why do you do it?
I am the woman behind the Lipstick & Ink blog and events business that launched in Chicago in February 2018. I started my career and lifestyle blog first and foremost because of my passion to write and my love for helping women as they navigated their careers. I then expanded into events hosted in the city in Summer 2018, and I’m currently building upon that in 2019 as a larger piece of my business. Each event has a specific topic that resonates with women. For example, two of the events I am hosting in 2019 are related to how women can make their mark on their finances and then how they can make their mark on their careers. Lipstick & Ink has an underlying theme of make your mark so I try to incorporate that in every piece of content I share and every event I host.
Tell us what inspires you or motivates you to succeed?
Making my mark and impact on someone is really what inspires me and motivates me to succeed. I thrive on helping women realize their potential and that alone encourages me to keep going.
What are your goals in the next 5 years?
I plan to make Lipstick & Ink an official trademarked business and my hope is that it will become a brand that women can identify with. My goals to do that will be hosting more relevant events in the Chicago area, writing and publishing my first book, and growing my blog. Only time will tell what else I add to that!
What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome them?
While I’ll say I’ve received a ton of support for what I’ve built with Lipstick & Ink, I’ve also found that not everyone I thought would be supportive actually is. That was something I really struggled with for awhile because I am such a people pleaser and always want people to like me. But with any new endeavor, you’re going to come across criticism, judgment, and ridicule for what you’re passionate about. I’ve come to accept that and instead focus on the positive energy and use that negativity as fuel to keep pushing myself.
How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project?
I love the idea of The Fresh Faces Project. There is so many talented people in this world that sometimes are never discovered, so I love that the organization takes pride in lifting others up and showcasing talent that may not otherwise be found or seen. We need more organizations like The Fresh Faces Project!

What are your goals in the next 5 years?
My goals in the next 5 years is to have my brand stocked in major department stores nationwide and overseas.
What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome them?
Some of my challenges have included the cost to launch a new business as a designer as well as getting noticed as a designer in such a competitive industry.
I’ve learned to overcome these challenges via patience and keeping my faith in God during dry seasons and putting my best foot forward to ensure my brand is consistently growing each year.
How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project?
The Fresh Faces Project is a great concept to help local small business owners gain exposure for their businesses. We need more platforms like this to help push us forward to the local and national masses. Its a great platform to get noticed and I'm glad to be apart of the project.
Asetah (Tah) Dula, who also writes under the penname ASEERA, was born in Philadelphia,
PA. She is one of 7 siblings born to parents married for over 50 years. She moved to Virginia in
her 20's to pursue a better life for her children. There she studied Practical Nursing and became
licensed in 2006 as a Nurse. She then returned to school and obtained her Bachelor of Arts in
General Psychology and her Masters in Mediation and Conflict Resolution Psychology. She has
worked as a nurse, counselor, substitute teacher and clinician in pediatric, mental and behavioral
health. All the while never abandoning her love for history and writing. She loves to write
romance as well as historical dramas. She is a navy wife, married for over 13 years to the love of
her life, Ryan. She is mother to 4 children, 3 boys and 1 girl. She is also a pet mommy to 2 dogs, Majesty and Duke.
WHAT DO YOU DO AND WHY DO YOU DO IT?
I do a little bit of everything! I nurse because I like to help people, I work as a mental health clinician because I am interested in how the mind works, I write because I've always enjoyed creating fictional worlds that are an escape for readers, how books are for me. I also throw in some reality so that people can feel related to.
WHAT INSPIRES AND MOTIVATES YOU TO SUCCEED?
My family! I have four children who look up to me. I had my first child at the age of 16. He is now in college and headed to law school after graduation! I want to be a constant reminder that they have no reason not to follow and achieve their dreams. My fans, friends and readers motivate me to continue as well. The love and responses that I have gotten have been amazing!
WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS IN THE NEXT 5 YEARS?
My first goal is to have signed and mentored many up and coming authors through my publishing company, DreamWakeWork Publishing. My next goal is to see my work on the screen. More than anything, that of my Black Historical Fiction books. I think representation is such an important thing for those who are marginalized and do not see themselves as ever having been anything besides what society shows them. That is my prayer for the next 5 years.
WHAT ARE SOME STRUGGLES YOU HAVE ENCOUNTERED IN THE PROCESS AND HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THEM?
Mental health. I have PTSD, Depression and Anxiety. I actually finished writing my first book, ‘The Reluctant Queen’, on a legal pad with a dull pencil in the hospital for it. It’s an everyday struggle. The stories are what help me. Whenever God puts a new story or character on my heart, I know that it’s one way I will be able to keep going. Of course, my husband, parents and children. Their support is everything.
How do you feel about the Fresh Faces Project?
I am thankful for it! There are so many people in this world with talent that is just beyond comprehension. Especially in the world of artistry. Any positive platform that helps these people and their work reach new audiences is sorely need and appreciated. I hope it has great success and continues doing this service for this community, and the world. Thank you for what you are doing!
Nicodemus the Truth is a Rapper, Poet, Videographer and Photographer from the Southside of Chicago. Nicodemus is known for his will to promote social change through music and along the way has started a media company and mobile barber business. In the past he founded and coached his high school louder than a bomb team, leading to hiring from YCA. From here he connected with Kevin Coval (founder of Louder Than A Bomb), Jamila Woods, Add-2 and more.  Building his portfolio, he was asked by Kevin Coval to play the main role in the filming of his new book 'A People's History of Chicago’. He attends Western Michigan University and has used this opportunity to build in Detroit where he has shot, worked and connected with Tee Grizzley, Jacqueese, Eric Bellinger & more. Since pre-teens Nicodemus had multiple jobs while going to school and running his companies which pour into his obsessive pursuit of music. What do you do and why do you do it?I am a Chicago. emcee, poet, photographer, videographer, and barber. I run two businesses
UnderDAWG Visuals LLC (Professional media company) and Cuts By Nicodemus (Mobile barber
business) while attending Western Michigan University full time as a sophomore. Coming from
a working background I have always felt the urge to work and literally grab what I really wanted
and felt I deserve from this life, even if this means I have to outwork/hustle all those around
me.
What motivates me to succeed?Growing up on the southside of Chicago I experienced many intense situations at a young age
while also sort of living as a social outcast. Because of the constant feeling of taking this journey
alone and going through struggle at an early age I have always strived to better the situation for
myself and those around me. As I grew older I realized how much I could use the gifts that God
bestowed upon me to have a positive influence on not only my community but also my city.
What are my five year goals? In the next five years I want to live fully independent off of income from my music career, my
media company, and barber work. I want to have my college debt fully paid off and have some
sort of property in my name. I would like to travel every other month, and give back to my
community and family and inspire them to live their dreams. I want to have the honor of
working with celebrities like Eminem and Chance the Rapper because I hustled, crawled and
scraped every inch of the way to get there. I would also like to have a mate that I could build
with by then, possibly start thinking about having kids once the lifestyle has been secured.
What are some struggles you have overcome?Being completely honest the hip hop and music video culture is a rough place. I consistently
find myself brushing shoulders with gang members and other rough people to get to where I
need to be. I feel my background has prepared me for this even though I do not promote street
culture. When I was 8, my mom got beat and robbed at gunpoint in front of me. When I was 13
I was picked by gang members for their initiation process while walking down the block and was
beat unconscious. When I was in 16 my childhood friends turned on me violently for refusing
street culture and as I grew older I had some friends get murdered as is common in any Chicago
kid’s background. Because my life has been consistently in turmoil I feel prepared for the
business world of being extremely aggressive and not taking anything personal, which I feel
most people have not learned yet at 19. Who really cares of someone’s opinion of my music?
Haha what a joke.
How do you Feel of the Fresh Faces Project?I feel that this is an amazing opportunity to be linked with highly motivated Chicago individuals
and I am humbly honored to be chosen for such a title and placement. Much peace and love to
all those who work day and night towards their dreams and to God be the glory!
18 ROSSARIO GEORGE
CEO/President of Rossario George Tony Vincente has created a recognizable world-wide lifestyle brand in just 1 short  year. During that time Rossario George under Tony's direction has launch 3 successful collections, been featured in a number of magazines including Vogue and GQ and now sells on Amazon and Macy's.
What do you do and why do you do it?   I am CEO/President of Rossario George a Seattle-based lifestyle brand that specializes in beauty, shoes, clothing and home. Rossario George is a passion years in the making and besides making the world more beautiful my (our) goal is to make it better.
What inspires you or motivates you to succeed?  The universe, love and the people around me and how still look after me after they are no longer physically present.
What are your goals in the next 5 years?   Hire tons of people, Open our first flagship store, both myself and my fashions at the Met gala, starting a foundation and finally breathing.
What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome them?  Finding the funds to do what you need to do. I got lucky in a number of ways by having sources to tap in but starting a business in general is an expensive process. My advice is to save and be ready, plan hard then implement.
How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project?  The Fresh Faces Project is amazing the writing and videos are top-notch! Not to mention creator Calynn M. Lawerence is one of THE BEST in the industry. Working with her in anything is a badge of honor!

Samantha Steiner is the seasoned Author of a series of novels, blogs and articles that center around wellness, mental health and proper self care of the soul.

What do you do and why do you do it?
I'm a mental health author, blogger, and advocate. I created a mental health blog, mybipolarmind.com, that documents my own journal with mental health and to discuss various mental health and addictions issues and topics in the hope that others who deal these issues would not feel as alone as I did when I was first diagnosed with bipolar disorder. My first book, "My Bipolar Mind: You're not alone," was also just released right before the new year. I also created a support group on Facebook, which now has about 4K member, for people with these disorders to be able to connect and help support one another. Everything I have done is just to try to help others because I know what it's like to struggle with mental health alone, and I do not want anyone else to have to feel like that.

What inspires you or motivates you to succeed?
The main thing that both inspires and motivates me is the feedback I get from people who say that I have helped them or who say that I have made them feel better or less alone because they can relate to either something on the blog, in the support group, or from my book. My whole motivation is to just be able to help others who are going through it too.

What are your goals in the next five years?
My goals in the next five years are to continue to grow my blog so that I can have a variety of information available. I have recently found some amazing volunteers to help with this and they all have the same goal in mind; to help others. I plan to release a second book which is already in the works and will be in the editing stage soon. In the next five years and beyond, I just want to be able to help people who are going through a tough time know that they are not alone and that there is help out there. Regardless of what I do, as long as I am still able to help people, my goals have been achieved.

What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome them?
A lot of the struggles I have faced were all internal battles. Being bipolar, I have more ups and downs than I can count and sometimes the downs can be challenging to lift myself out of. I blogged and continued to write on the days where I just wanted to give up. I made extra therapy appointments, talked to those closest to me, and kept pushing forward until my depressive episodes lift. I utilize my support group during these times as well. I turned something horrible into another means of being able to help people who are like me or who care for someone with a mental health condition.

How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project?
I believe that The Fresh Faces Project is truly amazing. They do an excellent job of bringing the spotlight to the underdogs and the people of interest who are just beginning to make a name for their self. I applaud this project, and I am so happy that it exists!

Dovile, Founder of Dovi Art, was born in Lithuania. No matter what she managed to achieve in her country, she had to embark on her journey to the USA to advance her career and lifestyle. After graduating college with an Arts degree, she started teaching in the same college! She was considered a good designer when she worked for corporate America, but it never was satisfying. She participated in numerous local and international exhibitions with her paintings, but that still wasn’t enough! Three years ago, she entered into fashion world with her first collection and has continued ever since!

What do you do and why do you do it?
I create outfits, you can call me a fashion designer. Some life choices made me stop doing it for over two decades, but another life choices brought it back. I was dying inside for those two decades.
What inspires you or motivates you to succeed?
I cannot tell you exactly how inspiration happens, but some things are more likely to get me inspired, like looking at art book or visiting exhibition, or watching people on a busy street. I think it’s just how you look at the world, how much of it you notice. Success is just a bi-product of my daily activities.
What are your goals in the next 5 years?
In the next 5 years l want my label be sold in the stores like Bloomingdales or Neiman Marcus, create a costumes for at least one movie and have my fashion home. Insane, right?
What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome them?
To produce even single collection cost thousands, then there are fashion show entry and other fees just for a chance for people to see your creation. And after all that l have to compete with the stores like Zara or H&M. Fashion business is very complicated and there’s not enough space to talk about it. Overcome? Just be there after 2,3,5 years.
How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project ?
The Fresh Faces Project is giving the creatives like me one more chance to be noticed in a meaningful way! It’s not just a picture with no explanation, but I get a chance to show who I am and why l do what I do.

PD Alleva is a highly accomplished multi-genre author and humanitarian. His fiction books include
horror, dark fiction, inspiration, romance and science fiction. A stout conspiracy theorist and
believer in the metaphysical he brings these elements to light in his novels. Mr. Alleva has also
been a part of the psychology field over the last two decades. During his tenure, Mr. Alleva
developed what was considered the gem of substance abuse and mental health treatment programs. Mr. Alleva continues to assist with developing trauma and addiction programs for children affected by addiction, and engages in non-profit programs that center around the arts. He dedicates most of his time to developing his writing craft, writing stories that entertain as much as horrify or inspire. What do you do and why do you do it?  I am a multi-genre fiction author with five published books and several more currently in development. I write with the purpose and mission to entertain, dazzle, horrify and inspire. I love adding a meticulous nature to my stories, driving thought through entertainment and creativity. Some of my stories inspire, others will leave you in tears, and then there are the stories that will simply horrify. I believe in eliciting a strong emotional response in the reader and I write because it is my one true passion.
Tell us what inspires you or motivates you to succeed? What inspires me most is living a peaceful balanced life. I accomplish this by writing and continuing to develop my craft in the best way I know possible. What motivates me to succeed are my four children, my wife and wanting to contribute artistically, creatively and philosophically to the world.
What are your goals in the next 5 years?   My goals are writing based, however, they do not begin and end with writing. Some of my goals include: write a best selling book (multiple actually); write a best-selling series; turn my book(s) into movies; develop writing contests for young children; and assist in developing artistic programs in under privileged areas.
What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome them? One of my biggest struggles has been finding balance. In 2011 I opened a small business that took up more than 90% of my time. I worked night and day and that is all fine and dandy, however, I wasn’t happy. Started out happy. Thought I was happy but truly I had no balance. I rarely saw my wife and kids and even when I was with them I was on the phone. All the money in the world isn’t worth anything if the cost is too great. In 2016 I tendered my resignation. My wife and I scaled back and put our noses to the grind to put us in a position where family, passion and balance are always first. We have never been happier.
How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project ? An excellent initiative! There are so many small businesses and aspiring talents that go unnoticed and get lost in the shuffle. The Fresh Faces Project is a large part of leveling the playing field, creating a wealth of opportunity to those who participate!
Patricia Williams is a very experienced motivational speaker, author, and Business woman who seeks to uplift the community through her works!
What do you do and why do you do it? I am an author, motivational speaker, and Entrepreneur. I am pursuing a Doctorate Degree in Education and Pastoral Counseling. My passion is loving God and also I love helping
people.
What inspires you or motivates you to succeed?I look to encourage, motivate and inspire others; therefore, I like to write. I like to see
other people witness my testimonies and to let them know they can overcome as well.
What are your goals in the next 5 years? My goals are to turn on of my books into a screenplay or a movie. Of course, writing
another book. I also am planning to open a second restaurant in Atlanta, I’m currently
working on the first one. It is called Little Pond Bis Taste Seafood Restaurant. I also plan
to have my Doctorate Degree in Education and Pastoral Counseling
What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome
them?

Some of the struggles that I have encountered was fear of not getting my message to the
audience. I felt like I was wasting my time with teaching, preaching, writing but most of
all encouraging those through my writing. I overcame it when a person told me how
much I inspire them with my writing and teachings, so that made me continue on. Also, a
fear of failure oftentimes will grip me, then I look back at the accomplishments and I
know for sure I hadn’t failed.
How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project? I think it is a great project. It allows people who are not known to become known!
23 EGLE M
Egle is a legal immigrant from Lithuania living in the suburbs of Chicago. She
graduated from New York University with a Bachelor of Arts in Creativity. Building
on her background in the arts, Egle continued to draw, photograph, and write part
time during her first few years out of college, while figuring out her footing as an
adult. In 2017, faced with one health problem after another, Egle realized that
there is no other profession she wants to pursue other than being an artist. Since
then, she incorporated EGLECTIC LLC, organized a fashion show, modeled in a
couple herself, and is nearly done with her memoir about the decision to
contribute to the world in the most meaningful way she can - by producing
artwork. All her content centers around themes of human rights, health, and
spirituality. She believes that art is the best way to express ourselves in healthy
ways and save the world (besides cleaning up the environment). What do you do and why do you do it? I am an artist and role model and I am trying to teach others how to live their
happiest, most fulfilled lives. I do it because, in 2017, after facing numerous
health issues one after another, I realized that I need to be living my life’s
purpose and sharing the gifts I have been endowed with. I had been putting it off,
but I have always known deep down that I was destined to be a great artist and
leader. My work centers around sustainability and health.
Tell us what inspires you or motivates you to succeed? After I made the decision to pursue my vision, I fought through a tangle of doubts
shrouding my mind. I didn’t know exactly what direction to take at first, but I kept
making content and sharing my message in whatever way I could. With every
step I took, I grew my certainty. Now, I am at a place where I am motivated and
inspired by everything - the positive feedback as well as the negative comments
or criticisms. More than anything, though, I am motivated by my own progress.
What are your goals in the next 5 years?  My long-term goals are: organize creative healing events, teach people how to
manage themselves in every facet (something I’m still mastering!), transform the
world population into a healthy and peaceful place for all to enjoy on an
ecologically healthy and flourishing planet. If I can get that done in 5 years, that’s
great, but these are the targets towards which I’ll be moving my whole life. If I did
achieve these results in 5 years or less, I would focus on raising humanity’s
standards of knowledge, infrastructures, health, and so on, because health is
more like a direction than a static point that can be reached.
What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you
overcome them?

My biggest struggles were those of dealing with my inner demons, overcoming
self doubt, and having faith in the future. When I embarked on this journey, I
thought I was already too old and it was too late for me to be successful. I
thought I was unworthy of love, of money, or even of joy. As I continued to create
more art and share more of myself with the public, I learned that I have a lot to
share with others and that the world *needs* my voice, even if people don’t
always want to listen to it. I learned that the personal struggles I have overcome
in my life already can help guide a lot of people, for years to come, but only if I
communicate it. The other big challenge was dealing with judgment from my
family and potential partners, because my purpose is so vast that not many are
able to understand it yet. In dealing with that part of my struggle, the best remedy
was connecting with like-minded people who did understand and support me.
How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project? This is such an amazing project! I am so happy to know that there is a
compassionate, strong woman highlighting some of the best that Chicago has to
offer. I think this is more of the type of media that we need in Chicago as well as
to be shared about our magnificent city! We have a reputation nationally that
completely discounts the diversity and creativity of our town. I couldn’t be more
grateful to be part of this project and community.

Eva Longoria, Gabriel Iglesias, Marlon Wayans, Marc Anthony, Jason Derulo, Paula
Abdul, Blondie and more! What do you do and why do you do it?I am an entertainment writer, blogger and publicist based in Chicago. I do what I do because I
love to write and I love the entertainment business, especially films, TV shows, movies and
celebrities.
What inspires you or motivates you to succeed? What inspires me is love, life, the drive to succeed and create, the desire to grow, and of course
my 8-year-old daughter.
What are your goals in the next 5 years?I would like to travel, write a book, have my work on various platforms, attend and cover an
awards show, such as the Oscars, and possibly have my own entertainment TV/radio show.
What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome
them?

The biggest struggle I have encountered is making it work as a single mother. There is a lot of
demand in this business and not always fair pay so to make it I have to juggle motherhood,
working towards my career and everyday jobs. I am able to take advantage of the opportunities I
am blessed with mainly because of the support I get from family, friends and loved ones.
However, sometimes I have to fight not just for opportunities but for support - it isn’t given
easily and freely without a fight. I am a fighter - I fight to survive, to make it and to do what I
love.
How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project ?It is a great initiative and project - very much needed in Chicago. Thanks to the Fresh Faces
Project, artists like me and creators get a chance to showcase our work and be supported for it.
Thank you Calynn and the Fresh Faces project for the work you do!

Ron Robinson is a guy from the west-side of Chicago that is a dedicated husband and father with the
drive and work ethic to be the best at whatever he does. He graduated from Illinois Media
School and is married to a wonderful wife that believes and supports his dream and is his backbone. He spent the majority of his adult life working at the airport until riding on the train to work he saw an ad for what was at the time the Illinois Center for Broadcasting and said "skip it, I’m going to take this leap and pursue my long time dream and let the chips fall where they may!" Years later, he is a growing radio host with a show Tha Daily Hustle on Vibe In Radio!
What do you do and why do you do it? I'm a Radio Personality on Vibe-In Radio . The reason that I do what I do is because it’s been I long
time dream of mine and honestly I got tired of what I was hearing on the radio and felt that this was
my way of doing something about it. What inspires you or motivates you to succeed?
What motivates me is my wife and children because I want to leave a strong legacy for my children
and future grandchildren. And, I also want them to see what it looks like to be in pursuit of your
dreams.
What are your goals in the next 5 years? My goals in 5 years are have my media company up and running and going in full beast mode and to start a business with my wife and kids.
What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome
them?
One of the struggles we have encountered was the loss of our daughter Aryn last year. That was
something that caught us all of guard, even though we knew the eventual outcome because of her
genetic disorder. But, we still weren't ready. We were able to find strength in each other and also
find peace in the fact that our daughter never knew the bad things that the world had to offer.
How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project ? The way I feel about the Fresh Faces Project is that I think it’s a dope concept that features a lot of
people from different walks of life! And, it also allows us to see that we have more in common than we think. In a nut shell, I love what the Fresh Faces Project is doing. 26 LENA SEYFARTH

What do you do and why do you do it?    I am a sophomore in High School. I am working hard on keeping an ‘A’ average in school while extending my modeling experience. My goal is to get into a good college studying science while pursuing my modeling career.
What inspires you or motivates you to succeed?Success motivates me. Knowing that hard work and perseverance will help me to achieve my goals is what keeps me going.
What are your goals in the next 5 years?  In five years I see myself in one of the top colleges for science. It is my goal to finish college with a PHD in Genetics and Cell Biology. I also hope to expand my modeling career.
What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome them? Being a student having assignments, projects, exams and on top of it occasional friend issues can be difficult, but I think if you have goals in life and really want to achieve them, you will do everything you can to succeed.
How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project? The Fresh Faces Project gives young talents a great opportunity for free exposure. It is well organized and a good way to find information about new talents. I am thankful that the Fresh Faces Project gives me the opportunity to be featured!

Todd is an artist who specializes in Character Busts. He studied Fine Art Drawing and Sculpture at Indiana University in South Bend Indiana. While in school, he became fascinated with special effects masks and completed an independent study on the subject. This lead to work in independent films, cosplay projects and some design work for a shop where he created wearable items such as rubber ears and noses. He transitioned into display bust sculpting as a way of pursuing my artistic vision. He saw in it a way to express himself through a cast of colorful characters. For the last two years,he's been showing his work in galleries, art markets and conventions in the Chicagoland and Indiana area. His work resides in collections all over including Dubai, Australia, Canada, London and all around the United States.

What do you do and why do you do it?
I am a sculptor specializing in lifelike character busts. My work is often a combination of painting, drawing and sculpture in the same piece. Each character has some connection to a part of my personality. Sometimes the message is cryptic, but there’s always more meaning than meets the eye.
What inspires you/motivates you to succeed?
I have a strong sense of nostalgia and easily get inspired by music, movies and other artwork.
Recently I’ve been drawing inspiration from old advertisements, movies and cartoon characters.
What motivates me to go into the studio each day is the hunger to complete a vision. To get it out of my head and bring it into existence, then show it to the world. That gives me a sense of purpose and accomplishment.
What are your goals in the next 5 years?
My ultimate goal for the near future is to achieve freedom from employment and be a full time artist. Even a modest living, as long as it’s independent, is success in my book.
I’m taking steps toward that by being proactive, productive and involved. I do as many shows as I can and sell my work regularly.
What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome them?
The biggest obstacle for me is being colorblind. It’s a constant battle that I must overcome on every single piece. I’ve created ways around it by using formulas, descriptive color swatches, special paint tints and extensive notes. I’ve also learned by trial and error where to use certain colors, even if I can’t exactly see what effect they have. Soon I plan to make a video on overcoming colorblindness for artists.
How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project?
I was absolutely thrilled to find and become a part of the Fresh Faces Project! This is exactly what an artist like myself needs to get more involved in the community. I’m excited to see what it leads to and look forward to being involved in future events.
Kristy is an author who lives in the U.K. She's always written short stories and poetry. She went to college to study acting which she loved, but her real passion has always been writing. So, now she writes the kind of stories she would have wanted to read as a teen. "Kiera's Quest-Awakenings" is my first book. There are four in the teen fantasy series, 'Sacrifices,' 'Perceptions,' and 'Choices.'( Muse It Up Publishing.) She's currently writing the third and last book to this series. She has a joint YouTube channel, 'TWO WORDY,' discussing books, writing, movies etc. She loves her two boys and hopes one day they will enjoy her stories.
What do you do and why do you do it?
I'm a Young Adult author mostly,  but I also have a teen fantasy series, KIERA'S QUEST and a New Adult fairy tale retelling, CINDERFELLA. My YA Paranormal Romance series, (published with Muse It Up Publishing) SUMMER'S END, was released last July, book two- SUMMER'S LOST' will be out in a few months. I also have a teen/YA romance book, JUST SAM which is a little bit 'Pretty in Pink' meets 'My So- Called Life.'

What inspires you/motivates you to succeed?
I write because I love it.  My love for fantasy such as The Never Ending Story, Clash of the Titans and Willow started my writing journey and I wrote the Kiera's Quest series. I  love chic flicks and never grew out of fairy tales, hence Just Sam and Cinderfella. I wanted to write Cinderfella for older people, so there is a little bit of adult content. Summer's End was inspired by Cassandra Clare, Lauren Kate and Becca Fitzpatrick's books, to name a few.

What are your goals in the next 5 years?
My goals in the next five years are to keep writing! I hope to have at least four more books to my name. And I'd love to have one made into a movie, I can dream right?

What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome them?
I think every writer struggles. I struggle with self-confidence, worrying what others will think of my work. Also marketing and getting my books noticed when there is so much great competition out there. I also procrastinate a lot!

How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project?
The Fresh Faces Project is a great idea, especially for people like me, with lots to say, but struggle to find a platform to speak from. There is such a huge pool of undiscovered talent in the world and this project puts the spotlight on those people who often get overlooked!
31 RAYNELL BRUTON Raynell Bruton is an innovative lifestyle photographer and videographer from Chicago who is seeking to make an impact on the creative industry with his work. What do you do and why do you do it ?I am a photographer/videographer, I have taught myself everything I know and
learned about both fields. I also have skills in auto mechanics, mobil electronics, public
speaking , and entrepreneurship. My focus this last 2 years have been on my art
talents, as I fell in love with the creativity and open world of visual arts. I choose visual
arts because I felt is opens an new world of imagination in my mind letting me release
my visions into reality. Seeing visions in my mind is incredible, but seeing them come to
life is EVEN BETTER! I love what I do and I have turned it into a small business which I
am working on expanding into greater things for others.
What inspires you, or motivates you to succeed ?The things I do inspires me by, increasing my drive for success. I want to
increase my skills, my mental, my creativity and my visions. The visual arts help me do
all these things from the time taken to learn, to practice, to drive myself into a dimension
that there is not ceilings to how far I can go up. When I’m using my skills, my excitement
is sky high, my brain opens a new door, and i'm allowed to follow my heart. Money does
not motivate me, but it does help me get more equipment to advance levels and that is
what I’m looking for out of what I do. I want to be a SUCCESS STORY ! I want more out
of life and here I am making my dreams come to life.
What are your goals in the next 5 years ?In the next 5 years my goals are, to have increased my knowledge in visual arts.
By doing this I will have advanced so much and can look way back to my beginning
shots and know that I have came so far and done it without being in school for lack of
financial ways to afford it. This is my way of showing others that nothing is impossible
and that all you have to do is put your all into what you want out of life. I would also look
to have been in more motivational speaking for others on what I do or just life things to
motivate the world.
What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you
overcome them ?

The struggles I have encountered while I have started on this path to success,
are things like criticism, lack of support, and adapting to new skills. The criticism was my
hardest challenge due to that I felt like I didn't have people that would like my work. It
was hard to break the cycle and understand my talents are in demand and I should
keep going. The other struggles I had was the lack of support from family, and friends
who didn’t believe in my work. I was shot down with words many of times and it would
stop my push to keep going. Last is adapting to new skills was hard to do by myself. It
took a lot of long nights, hours of concentration, and investing myself to what I believe
in.
How do you feel about the Fresh Faces Projects ?I love the benefit that the project brings, exploring new talents, building
confidence, and somewhere down the line your creating a spot in a timeline of
someone's dream or success story. This project is a good way to build a foundation of
people that will become friends, family, and possibly business partners in the future.
Love it ! Hope to be apart of more things with this foundation. 32 DEBRA FIORE
The sultry singer/songwriter/pianist, Debra Fiore has been performing throughout the Chicagoland area since she was 18 years old. She is highly visible and respected in wedding and corporate events. Her exquisite singing is often compared to that of Barbra Streisand. Debra has a talent of exposing her heart with lyrics and is elegantly unique in her vocal interpretations as a songstress with her 3 octave range. Through the help of her musical parents, Debra started learning the music business about the same time she began to walk and talk. Her mother toured as a vocalist with Elvis Presley, and her father was a notable Chicago jazz pianist who accompanied the highly acclaimed actress singer Ann Jillian and performed in several movie bit with Frank Sinatra. Debra began performing jingles and recorded her first demo at Universal Recording Studios Chicago, for client Bigsby and Kruthers thru TMK/Elias Productions when she was 22 years old. An award winning performance on her cd, gave her a personal letter written by Kenny Loggins which he stated “You’ve definitely got chops!” Debra has performed at many up-scale country clubs including Barrington Hills, Medinah, Ruth Lake, Oak Park, River Forest, Naperville, St Charles, and Inverness. She entertained at many Fortune 500 companies and was the house pianist at Inverness Golf Club for over 15 years. What do you do and why do you do it? I am a professional singer/pianist/songwriter and I’ve chosen to do this because it is my innermost strength and being expressing myself creatively through music as its outlet. It brings me a self-gratification that no other vocation could possibly compare to. What inspires you or motivates you to succeed? I’ve always been most inspired by my parents who were both professional musicians. A huge impact is attributed to the fact that my mother was the opening singer for Elvis Presley when he toured in 1956. I started singing simultaneously with the time I started to talk. Music was something I would take with me. I’d sing with whatever was on the radio. It always was that release for me! What are your goals in the next 5 years? I aspire to be headlining to a crowd of 50,000 or more! What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome them? I’ve encountered struggles which can be reflected in the insincerity of agents/producers in the music business. This led me to produce my own material and book my own shows. I became a stronger individual on account of this. How do you feel about the Fresh Faces Project I am very excited about the Fresh Faces Project which allows opportunity and exposure though promotion for new talent and businesses to thrive on. It is a wonderful way for talent and new businesses which are developing in the Chicago area to take on the public relations and advertising media it offers. But I overcome these struggles with a combination of persistence, perseverance, hard work, support from others, and by just taking a leap of faith.

How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project?
The Fresh Faces Project is amazing! Gaining exposure as an aspiring artist or small business can be a challenge, and financial resources are often limited for aspiring artists and small businesses as well, so a nonprofit campaign like The Fresh Faces Project that provides free and discounted PR to new talent and startup businesses is a blessing and fulfills a definite need.

36 SHAN TAJIAH

SHANN TAJIAH is an award winning poet and photographer from West Central Texas. In the woods of her native Minnesota, Shann fell in love with nature and portrait photography. She is currently working on a photography project entitled Unlocked, in which she explores the ideas that we as humans have hold the keys that we need in order to live full and balanced lives. A true creative, Shann began to write stories and poetry at age eight. Her 2018 debut, Scraps of Love: Poetry from the Darkest Night 1997-2010 was released in 2018. The collection explores her struggle to understand and come to peace with the loss of her childhood to complex trauma. When Shann isn’t writing or capturing the world through her camera lens, she can be found hiking, spending time with her family, filming for her YouTube channel and enjoying the company of her furred and feathered kids.

What do you do and why do you do it?
I am a semi-professional photographer and author. I create because I love to and I because it feels like drowning when I don‘t. There is nothing more enjoyable to me than losing myself in a photography session or working on my latest writing projects. I view both as an opportunity to not only mourn hardships and celebrate life, but also to share my heart and soul with the world.

What inspires you or motivates you to succeed?
For as long as I can remember I have had a need to prove myself as a writer, and that has extended itself into my photography as well. I am also a stubborn survivor, and decided to use my writing and photography as a way to share my (sometimes) triumphant journey of survival from childhood trauma. Through my pieces  I hope to inspire others to share their stories and know that they are not alone.

What are your goals in the next five years?
Within the next five years I am hoping to complete my photography project, Unlocked. I am also aiming to release at least four more books, both poetry and fictional. I imagine that I will finally be settled into my new home in Texas as well - this past year has been very adventurous and I am looking forward to having a sense of home again.

What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome them?
The hardest thing to deal with has been my inability to believe in myself. I’m pretty sure that’s a common theme for most of us. Over the last few years, I have really been forcing myself to share my work even when I am uncomfortable or fearful. It doesn’t always feel good, but on the other side I have found so much personal growth and it has pushed me to a much deeper level creatively.

How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project?
The Fresh Faces Project is amazing! There are so many talents and entrepreneurs out there that  it is easy to get lost in such a saturated space. I really appreciate Calynn’s efforts to bring attention to the lesser known talents that are changing our world with their creative endeavors!
37 FATIMA MUNROE Chicago native Fatima Munroe always knew she would write. As a winner of numerous awards for
composition and an avid reader since she was young, Fatima cultivated a career in the literature. Her
dream was temporarily derailed by real life during her teenage years when she took a position at a retail store in order to pay for college. Moving up through the ranks from cashier to associate to department supervisor and eventually into upper management, Fatima obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management online while completing management training in her chosen field. Settling into a demanding career, she longed to return to her first love of the written word. Taking a step out on faith, Fatima resigned her career and returned to her first love of writing. After the untimely passing of her father, Fatima resolved to make her dream a reality, and sent a few chapters of a story to three publishing houses, finally settling on one that she felt would cultivate her dream. Recognized by Ubawa Magazine as one of the top 100 authors in Urban Fiction for two years in a row, Fatima has authored multiple titles and contributed to numerous anthology series. What do you do and why do you do it? As a published author, the technical term would be that I’m an author. I refer to myself as an
urban storyteller. It’s a huge misconception that all urban areas are the same, and nothing can
be further from the truth. We all love, experience loss, and care for our families in the process.
What inspires you or motivates you to succeed?Motivation for me is a sense of accomplishment in everything I touch. Whether it’s in writing,
interacting with others, attending book fairs, or speaking at an event, I feel success when I get
the inbox or email that something I created touched another person in a positive way.
What are your goals in the next 5 years? Hmm. This list changes often, but for right now my five year plan is to continue to perfect my
craft, transition out of the urban book niche and into a more mainstream audience, start my own
publishing company, and write an Emmy-winning screenplay. Not necessarily in that order, lol!
What are some struggles you have encountered in the process and how did you overcome
them?

In the beginning my biggest obstacle was creating and growing my reader base. Once I realized
this was an ongoing process, I switched my focus on creating out of the box stories and
marketing. Now I’m working on changing the narrative regarding urban books and the
assumption that all urban books are about guns, drugs and killing. We’re so much more than
just that.
How do you feel about The Fresh Faces Project?
I’m excited to be a part of the Fresh Faces Project! I appreciate the opportunity to be featured and look forward to the chance to share my work with potential new readers! 38 STANLEY JAMES II

Stanley James II is from the North Side of Long Beach. Transforming his life from former gang member, "Baby Face" , Stanley has transitioned his life completely! From serving time in and out of jail, throughout his entire teens, to now being a published author of multiple books with dreams of entertaining and educating through his fictitious cautionary tales of the street life. He has abandoned his ways of illegal activity  to the professional life of a writer. James is currently in the works of shooting a short film based on his books and poetry. He has sold over twenty-five thousands books worldwide. James is also about to release his newest project “Escobar’s Revenge” sometime In 2019. Stay tuned!

What do you do and why do you do it?
Well I'm a full time dad, full time author as well as film maker and full time hustler. I write gang tales/street literature that's read as movies. I write these stories because it shows others that looks just like me that there's other options in life other than being subjected to guns gangs drugs rap or sports.

What inspires me or motivates me to Succeed?
The imitation of life that I write reflects the current time and state that we all live in. Inspiration comes from those around me with little to no hope at succeeding in life. Being able to have peers and kids learn from my stories is motivating enough.

What are your goals for the next 5 years?
Within the next 5 years I see myself producing more books and films. I see myself being able to travel the world researching all based from my literary works. 5 years from now I see being able to start my own publishing company and maybe opening up my own bookstore.

What are some of the struggles I've encountered and how did I overcome them?
The struggles I've encountered over the course of my career was learning the book and publishing industry on my own. I've never had proper schooling just learned on my own. I've overcame my struggles by getting with mentors such as I see myself following their footsteps. I've used my own money to learn the ins and outs as producing my own work and marketing strategies.

How do you feel about the Fresh Faces Project?
I feel this is extremely important and much needed for our culture. Forbes 500 isn't the only place you'll be able to find successful people from many different walks of life.

I started this blog when I was barely 15 years old in January 2011 as a supplement to my application to the retail business internship at the downtown Chicago Nordstrom mall! I stayed there for 3 years learning the fundamentals of everything fashion business from sales and marketing to media and modeling. This was a phenomenal foundation to my career as it gave me the rudimentary knowledge and competitive edge that I needed to be successful!  From there, I went on to college and obtained my first degree in Business and Humanities (the arts and social sciences). I wrote as a freelance journalist and editor for several large publications and hosted live cable television for two years. I walked countless red carpets being a VIP media guest at major industry events all over the country

Maybe you don't need to sign up for almost every app known to man like I have LOL, but at least try the major ones. This blog is a detailed account of my findings as a young, sweet, successful woman with online dating.  For clarity, I've added the below chart for you to understand who I am and what I have to offer versus what I am seeking. This foundational knowledge is key to comprehending the results of my "experiment." I, as a 26 year old woman who is the CEO of a successful small business ( www.caycomcreate.co
